Cave de Tain Rose de Syrah 2016
Sustainably-grown (certified Group ICV).
The Cave de Tain is major player in Hermitage and is responsible for about 50% of the output of the Northern Rhône Valley! Nearly 2500 acres under vine, with more 2200 acres in appellation (AOP) vineyards (Hermitage, Crozes- Hermitage, Saint Joseph, Cornas, Saint Péray) and the balance in IPG Collines Rhodaniennes. Appellation vineyards include 71.6 acres in Hermitage (of which the Cave de Tain directly owns 54.3 acres).
Fruit for the “Première Note” Rosé de Syrah was grown on slopes bordering the eastern side of “Cru” vineyards, within the districts of Tain l’Hermitage, St Donat and Tournon. Soil composition ranges from granite, to clay/chalk, to sand, to alluvial deposits.
This rose is made from pure Syrah from vineyards in the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, from vines averaging 10-20 years in age. Yields of 4 tons/acre.
Harvested very early in morning and pressed directly, with no maceration. Fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. No malolactic conversion. Aged a couple months on the fine lees and bottled young.
Tasting Notes: The Première Note Rosé de Syrah is a fun, fresh and fruity rendering of this majestic, flagship varietal of the Northern Rhône Valley. Pale pink in color and loaded with fresh raspberry, strawberry and cherry fruit, with a round, juicy palate and long, clean finish.
