De Iuliis Hunter Valley Semillon 2013
The Hunter Valley, on the southeast coast of Australia just north of Sydney, is renowned for producing some of the best Semillon in the world. This wine displays fresh, lifted, citrus characters, a light palate, and crisp, zesty acids. Perfect for early consumption, while still suited to cellaring. Presently de Iuliis total varietal average yearly crush is approxiately 100 tonnes from the 15 hectares of vineyard. This extremely low yield results in very concentrated fruit, which, in turn, produces wine with exceptional flavor.
This wine is already settling into a sound drinking place. It's all strung on a taut line of acidity but the lemon, apple, hay and spice notes give something to enjoy now. That said, it shows all the signs that, over the medium term at least, it will mature deliciously.
