Domaine de la Colliere “L’esprit D’Argile” Rasteau 2014
Southern Rhône Valley, France
L’esprit D’Argile means: The Spirit of the clay. Located in the former cave of the self-professed madman of Rasteau, André Roméro, Domaine la Collière was founded in 2002. The village of Rasteau became part of the Côtes du Rhône AOC in 1937, and in 1966, Rasteau’s dry wines became part of the Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation. Rasteau is now a Cru of the Southern Rhone Valley.
- 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah
- Soil: Clay limestone, blue clay
- Gentle maceration on the skins for each tank with délestage (punch down) performed 2 to three times.
- Fermented and aged entirely in concrete tanks
Winemaker Notes: Domaine la Collière stands out in Rasteau as a proponent of a more elegant style of wine. Their wines are adamantly Rasteau but lifted and bright. This blend of Grenache and Syrah mixes the richness typical of the blue clay soil with the freshness of grapes grown on lighter clay limestone soils.
