Bodegas Finca Millara Lagariza Ribeira Sacra Mencia 2016
DO Ribeira Sacra
The wine origin of the Ribeira Sacra dates back to the 3rd century AD, with the Roman legions established in Lugo (Lucus Augusta) which, taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate of the Miño basins, plant the first grapevines.
In the 8th century, after the Muslim occupation, Bishop Odoario replanted the slopes with new vines and olive trees. The hermits take the valley as a refuge, and later build monasteries and Romanesque churches, hence the name "Rivoyra Sacrata". These monks energized the cultivation of the vine, improving and increasing its production.
In the last quarter of the twentieth century the "resurrection" of the Ribeira Sacra took place after the end of the plague of phylloxera that ravaged Europe in the 19th century, with the rehabilitation of old terraces, planting them with vines of phylloxera resistant vines, and recovering the old historical varieties.
Brilliant ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, cola, licorice and dried flowers. Racy and precise but concentrated too, offering energetic red and dark berry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows excellent clarity on the finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a floral nuance.
