Gilvesy "BOHEM" Riesling Cuvee 2016
Digging into the ancient slopes of Szent György-Hegy and the Badacsony Highlands on the north shore of Lake Balaton, owner Robert Gilvesy returned from Canada to focus on cultivating native Hungarian grape varieties and creating fine handcrafted wines with both new and old wine making technologies.
A fresh blend of Riesling Italico (Olasz Riesling), Rhein Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris that showcases Balaton's volcanic terroir. The backbone is Riesling Italico, one of the main grape varieties of the region. Pinot Gris provides a round middle palate while Rhine Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc add aromatic notes and racy acidity. The label that pictures a cartoon fight with St. George and the Dragon, refers to the volcanic hill named after St. George where the winery is located. The wine has a pale straw color, a clean nose with aromas of sea spray, flint, lemon rind, and a hint of jalapeno. The palate is medium-bodied with a strong minerality and some saltiness. Serve it chilled with charcuterie or spiced pork roast.
