Santadi Carignano Del Sulcis Grotta Rossa 2014
Umberto Trombelli; consultant: Giacomo Tachis
From vineyards in Basso Sulcis (lower Sulcis); medium-textured soil with sand, clay and limestone, the climate is mild in winter, hot and dry in the summer.
VINIFICATION AND AGING
The must ferments on skins at a temperature between 25-30 °C (77-86 °F), with pumpovers. Malolactic fermentation gives the wine its velvetiness. The wine ages for a few months in cement tanks before bottling; epoxy-lined cement tanks, steel tanks and at least 3 months in bottle.
Concentrated and deep ruby red. Intense and fruity with licorice on the finish. An elegant wine with good volume on the palate.
